Subsonic Flyer
Hi I have read through the many threads on this site regarding refinishing a stock but have yet to find the answer I am looking for. I have a Miroku stock that has been fully prepped and is ready for the final oil finish. I am using Trade Secret Raid Oil and applying small quantities by hand generating a lot of heat in the process. When finishing each coat should I buff with a lint free cloth or just let it dry as is? Any advice would be appreciated. SF

palombier
SF Very small amount each day and leave to dry is my preferred method. repeat for about 4-6 weeks and eventually the shine will come through and you will have reached a point when the wood won't take any more. Patience is the name of the game. P
pin
Is this how one achieves a mirror finish oiled stock? Obviously one needs quality wood first, prepared correctly. But this little and often for months is what's required for a "best quality" finish?

SF having done a few, i always found a thinned first couple of coats will soak in better, especialy if heated, not boiling, the thinner oil will penetrate deeper and seal better, then as many coats as you see fit, its your elbow right, just dont leave too much on the surface it will scale and thicken, then you need to wool it off again. Mungler
Joanna Lumley - I would. And Joan Collins. Deffo Dolly Parton for two obvious reasons. Joan Rivers as well, would need a few drinks first though, mind you, so would she. I digress..... back to the thread.
