Flattened barley

I'm like a pig in the proverbial at the mo :good: .

I've a field of flattened barley that's the first to go down on my permission and it's been attracting quite a few pigeons for a few weeks now.

I initially tried decoying, but the field's too big with loads of flattened bits, so didn't have much joy. I did however notice a lovely sitty tree on a flight line.

The last 3 times I've been up I just stood under this tree and have had a ball :good:

In all I must have shot in excess of 80 woodies over about 9 hours, some sitting but most flying. Today I took the 20 bore up and shot about 18 in two and half hours. I have to say it was some of the best shooting I've ever done. I was getting crossing birds that I would normally miss with the 12 bore and and twice had shot birds land at my feet.

Todays few hours were probably the best couple of hours shooting I've ever had

Oh, and I saw a greater spotted woodpecker, (unusual around here).

me and a mate from the bbs had a similar day in hereford on thursday .

went to look at a pea field but it had nothing on it but noticed they were flighting into some trees near a large patch of flattened wheat just up the road.

asked the farmers wife as my mate didn't have permission for this field and got the ok.

chucked out the rotary and had a happy few hours with pigeons trying to land on the rotary around 20yrds in front of us .

we took 85 pigeons in just over five hours , they were still dropping in when we left but we both had other commitments so had to leave.

Had similar sport plonked at the base of a large beech tree in a small copse in the centre of a large field. No deeks, no magnet, just Birds coming straight into me. Great sport and it goes to show - location, location, location.

yep , you need to be where the pigeons want to be.

the guy i was out with the other day hasn't done too much pigeon shooting and reckons he's not a very good shot , i think his problem has been that he wasn't pulling the birds close enough (through inexperience) .

it turns out that he shot around half (40ish) of the birds for 50 carts , pretty good shooting by any standards.
