A workmate was a green jacket; Mcnabs original unit. He said his real name is Steve Mitchell, and he had a reputation of being a ********. :good:

******, i`ve done it now. That was probably sensitive information :good:

Is he Grant Mitchell's brother? :)

Do you know who The Stig is though??

Stig?

The book written by mike asher is a "indepth" on the ground researched account. Asher was not on the original mission, but was a former SAS trooper.

He went back and pulled mcnabs account to bits. He "found" a number of flaws and witnesses etc.

Ryan even countered Mcnabs book with some of his own accounts.

Mcnab is probably only usefull for the "fictional" stuff he is writing.

If you want a good read I strongly recoomend ONE UP. a female operative from the DET over in N.I. Makes very very good reading.

For those lads who are asking about solider 5..........it is out...................or at least it was.........I have a copy, again another good read and opens up your eyes on just exactly what a cluster **** B20's mission was.

I used to have a very good collection of military novels. Once a Pilgrim is another good one from seira leone.

Anyone else recommend any "intelgence" spook type stuff from over the water. Deadman Walking, Dead Man Running Ive read..

All Biography style 'factual' books:

Nemesis File - Paul Bruce (SAS death squad in NI)

Killing Zone - Harry McCallion (SAS, SADF & RUC in NI)

Not NI but good reads:

Unscathed - Phil Ashby (Sierra Leone, similar to Will Scully's Once a Pilgrim )

Shooting Gallery - Gaz Hunter (Sierra Leone, and fighting the Russians alonside the Mujahadeen in Afghanistan)

I've got loads of SAS books but after reading 'Eye Of The Storm' By Peter Ratcliffe I've changed view of a lot of them.

He was the Regimental Sergeant Major during the Gulf War. Excellent read. He basically says that all the McNab stuff and that of most of the others is utter rubbish !! all made up. He is not in any way approving of MacNab and pretty much says he was a T*** with a big mouth that got men killed because he coudn't do as he was told.

Well worth reading, quite an eye opener !

Also as rarms has said, Nemesis File is an excellent book.
