Doc Holliday
Morning guys and gals, I'm having some trouble with my HDD fir the CCTV but in order to view it on the tv I need to get from VGA on the HDD to HDMI on the One Connect box. I called Maplin this morning and the guy said it can't be done without a converter box as the signal from the HDD needs to be converted to digital on the TV side. I had a quick gander on the bay and see there are leads available for under a fiver that have VGA one end and HDMI t'other. Any help/advice as to suitability or feasibility of getting from to the other would be very much appreciated. Doc.
Dunkield
He is right, you can't upscale a signal just connecting a cable that fits both ends. The cables you have seen go from HDMI to VGA not the other way round.

Doc Holliday
Thanks for the reply guys. I have to confess to being a muppet. I was looking at the end that plugged in to my cctv dvr. That is a VGA connection. The other end of the lead is DVI. So I have a male DVI that I would like to get to HDMI. I have seen a female DVI to male HDMI adaptor. There is no audio from the cctv so as far as I can make out, after doing a bit of digging, all I need is one if these adaptors (about £3 off ebay). Or am I still being a muppet? grrclark
Ultimately you are still trying to convert VGA to HDMI, it doesn't matter that the cable you have goes from VGA to DVI, the source signal is an analogue VGA one. DVI-A or DVI-I both support an analogue signal path. To go from an analogue VGA signal to a digital HDMI you will need to go via a convertor box and not just a gender/interface adaptor.
