moor man
Hi, I have recently aquired a Chrony Beta chronograph and made a diy 2 button remote for it. Very happy with result, enabling me to scroll through displays from distance, however in bright sunlight it's difficult to see the readout. Remote is 4m long, made from a 5m audio cable with 3.5mm jack either end, one of which is removed and replaced with 2x momentary button switches. Housed in an old 35mm film canister. Cost approx £5.? It got me to thinking is it possible to diy a connection (wired/wireless) from chrony to an android phone? I understand I will need a digital to analogue doohda and possibly a download on phone. I know chrony make such a thing but it's expensive..... Has anyone made one or similar? I am just about capable of soldering and simple electronics so any suggestions of what I need gratefully received. Thanks.MM. 1066
Spandit is the guy for this - Just up his street. A workable but crude way would be with a USB camera connected to your android and actually filming the crony screen. You could adapt this method I used here: Edited July 6, 2018 by 1066
spandit
I don't know what signals the Chrony sends down that line. I recall they can supply a printer to display the results. To display them on a phone would require either a dedicated app or interfacing to another app - neither of which is simple. I'd be inclined to just try to wire in a remote screen, using Arduino and i2c
moor man
Thanks for responses.. Spandit sorry to hear about your dog. 1066; knowing my luck will end up shooting the camera good idea though.? Spandit; found a 4m wire with appropriate bits for £20 from customtackle.com. plug.n.play? Think the diy bluetooth would be too expensive and beyond my skills. moor man
http://www.customtackle.co.uk/opencart/upload/index.php?route=product/product&path=61&product_id=68 Waiting for a reply to confirm this is compatible with the Chrony beta. The cable is actually 2m+3m usb c extension. Prob going this route. Has anyone out there used this kit? spandit
You can buy a 3.5mm to USB adaptor very cheap and you can pick up the cable for your phone very cheaply too. Is there anything special in the one you linked to?
moor man
I think it changes the output from analogue to digital?https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F161293014479 https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F253571425326 Not entirely sure but think these components are needed.....cheap enough tho.
