ph5172
I have a slight problem, my laptop sits clunking around for ages and even logging into a user unsues 5 mins of clunking before i can do anything... i have a ACER Aspires 3662WLMi, it has a single 512 DDR2 chip installed but my properties is telling me it is only 256, same with the online diagnostic tools. Is this why my laptop is running slow? HELP!!!!

HELP!!!! it would run slow running 512 meg but if it has got 256 meg it would really struggle. mines got 1 gig and it chugs along ok running xp pro. might be best to have a look at the ram and see what size it actually is. i would be surprised if it is 256. death from below
Sorry to hijack the post but along the same lines is it difficult(for a no brainer when it comes to computers) to boost the RAM for a computer....my computer keeps telling me I should get more ram when I do the occasional clean up....and is it expensive to buy a bigger ram chip or whatever else is needed. pin
HELP!!!! There are many reasons why a computer will run slow, and it would be impossible to tell from here with any accuracy. Assuming it used to be faster, then it could be :- Spyware, adware, malware, Badly fragmented disk, lack of ram / too many programs loaded among other things. Try getting some anti-spyware software (ad-aware for instance, google for it) and run that through. Then schedule a defragmentation for your main hard disk. The reason your laptop probably reports less ram is the graphics card pinching some for it to do it's thing. 256 is excessive, it can normally be limited in the BIOS. Hope this helps
