dazzyboi
Iv recently been shooting over a field of layed barley, as soon as i walk into the field (Gun still in slip). I spook around 100 pigeons which are feeding on the layed barley, i then go to set up with all the deeks hoping they would come back, but there was very little activity coming back, only seen about 10-15 flying around in about 2 hours... Is this normal? how can i avoid this?
karl h
you cant mate they are a wild bird bird, at the moment there is so much food it is hard to pin point them.
tulkyuk
The fact that you have shot at them before springs to mind - they aint as daft as you think
dazzyboi
So whats the best way to approach this sort of scenario? surely there are others with the same problem but yet they still manage to yield large bags?
malkiserow
IMHO it is the bang that frightens them..So try shooting quietly.................LOL Seriously though, it is a pain with so much food about .... yesterday I was set up by 7.30AM had some great shots but by 8 AM they had all gone elsewhere... the odd one came over for a look but virtually nothing. If others are about they may end up pushing them back later ? I've noticed this on the odd occasion but as I cannot control the other guys, it is luck not judgement if that happens. good luck Malk
Stealth Stalker
3 words Reconnaissance Reconnaissance Reconnaissance Watch what time they're arriving in the field, they wont all arrive at once but in 2s & 3s Watch the part of the field they want to be in & their flightline in to the field Allow the birds to build up Choose your hide site carefully, where the wind will carry your shot noise away from the flightline Then choose the day you intend to get the red letter day, with the ideal weather conditions being an over cast day with a moderate wind, arrive early & build yourself a well camoflaged hide, choose the best decoy pattern to suit your hide position. Then load the gun, sit back & watch them all land in the next field Thats pigeon shooting SS
Ballymac
stealth stalker have you been out the last few days with me you hit the nail on the head, lots of work goes into finding the rite field and the right time only to find they have moved on, although the more you work at it the luckier you get, as sort of said by a famous golfer once. EARLY BIRD CATCHES THE WORM I thought as much, its just difficult getting out any earlier due to work going to have to brave a beatin from the misses and go out on the weekend. pin
It's fine not doing any homework and popping out for a few hours but you'd have to be winning the lottery lucky to make a decent bag. We don't all have the time to do the homework, I don't mind as long as I am out there. Gilesy doesn't mind how many I miss, as long as I am there they are not on his crop
