I was in the gun shop today picking up a lightforce scope light and while the lad fitted the bracket for me he let me have a look at a savage hmr,at a distance i thought it was a remmie like johngalways stock looks exactly the same ie very nice :good: the grip area is just perfectly formed and fits like a glove. It seemed to have a fairly sweet trigger think they call it the accutrigger it felt a lot better than one on my current marlin.Any views on this rifle would be much appreciated ???

i used to know a fella who worked in the savage factory here in Canada as far as i know all the savage rimfires are made here and from what i can tell seem to be the best on the entry level rimmys far better then a marlin i would recomend a savage to anyone ???

Hi Mark, a good friend of mine has 2 savage rifles, a .22 and .243,and he has owned more in the past. He likes them.

Personally I don't and his hasn't been too reliable with his .22 having ejecting problems, however with all guns, he could have just been unlucky.

All of the HMR's only have small mags (god knows why), My mag only holds 4 and 1 up the spout.

if your going to buy try to get hold of a couple of spare mags, incase it gets hectic while you out ???

Thanks for that jcbruno sounds good to me the stock on this rifle is something else seen it again today think im going to have to splash out its a sweet gun :good:

Tulkyuk it aint a major issue for me i think five is plenty i might just get one or two spare mags for when im shooting bunnys with her they should be cheap enough

Lazza my marlin gave me a bit of trouble from new and so did my silver pigeon so unfortunatly sometimes they do go wrong but hopefully it will be grand ???

tikkamark,

That is my favorite stock of all that are on the market at the moment. It is made by boyd's gunstocks in the US and as you mentioned it just feels great on the shoulder and in the hand. They retail $189 USD for most actions as a drop in and they will inlet them to one degree or another for most rifles. Not sure what it would take to get one across the pond here.

I too really like the accutrigger in the savage. I have the R93 in stainless synthetic sporter weight without the accutrigger. It shoots well (<1" at 100 yd in calm conditions) but I have to watch how I pull the trigger as it isn't nearly as smooth as I'd like. I may do a trigger job on it, but for the MBPR of that gun it is acurate enough. The accutrigger is so much smoother, plus you can set it a lot lighter than the non accutrigger that it doesn't cause the same problems as I have.

I am building my own 223 at the moment. It will be the savage with accutrigger, but dropped into the Boyd's stock. I know it isn't the gun you asked about, but it pertains tot he relevant bits.

Thanks,

Rick
