njc110381
I went for a treck to Shooting Supplies in Bromsgrove today to have a look around. I spotted a CZ American with a lovely pattern on the stock so I decided to put down a deposit on it. Hopefully my FAC shouldn't be too long now! The trip has created me another problem too, I've handled a Sako! I went there mainly to look at the Tikka T3s he had in stock, and also a used CZ550. I didn't like the CZ much, although I don't know why? It just didn't feel right for me. I picked up both the synthetic and wood version of the T3 and decided I like the wood much more. I thought that would be the end of my search for a nice rifle when I can get 6.5x55 on my certificate. Then just before I left, the guy handed me a Sako 75. What a gun, it felt perfect and I really liked the metal trigger guard and magazine which is the only downer on the T3. Now I don't know what to do, the Sako is a bit over my budget but it's a really nice gun. I could stretch to it if I save a bit more (with the firearms dept being this slow, I have plenty of time!), but how much better is it than the Tikka? The T3 was very nice, it just didn't have the feel of quality that I noticed with the Sako. It's a bit like the Beretta/Lanber debate. Both are good guns, but once you've opened the action on a Beretta, the Lanber feels a bit second rate! I ended up with a Beretta shotgun, maybe I'll try for the Sako rifle? dazzyboi
You will be impressed with the CZ. Im not sure what the score is but im sure there is a couple of different wood finishes floating around the market. I looked at a CZ American (.17hmr) in my local RFD, the gun was nice but the wood has abit of a bland finish to it. The one I actually bought (New) from the clay club owner had a much nicer finish on it like it was properly varnished.
Dead-Eyed Duck
Go for the Sako, or you'll always be thinking "Should I have gone for the better quality gun". I did..... Don

moses
I have a Sako 75 Hunter in 6.5x55 You will not regret buying one but, you may regret not buying one! Just out of interest, what are they asking for the Sako? Moses
njc110381
Unfortunately the Sako was a .243, and they don't make the 75 anymore. Maybe the 85 is just as nice, or I could still find a 75? They only stopped making them very recently, so there's bound to be a few left. I want a 6.5x55 too. It was £895 I think, compared to £595 for the Tikka. I'm not good at holding on to money, so if I have enough I'll almost certainly go for the Sako! If you are buying an outfit you can really haggle for the best deal, if you can't get a huge amount off the rifle (I believe the margins are quite tight, around 5%) then you can certainly get a load of accessories and ammo thrown in. Oly
To be honest IMO that's what I think about all many guns, Tikka being one of them...you need to handle true quality before making a considered desicion...otherwise you just end up constantly trying to defend a bad desicion. Out of the two....SAKO

njc110381
Try a Sauer 202, very good gun. Can you get one with a wood stock? I've only ever seen synthetic. They push the budget even more, but I know they're good!
dodeer
Just bought myself an Advantage 6.5x55, lovely bit of kit. Basic wood grades start from £1000. Synthetic from £
