NatureBoy
Some folk should not be allowed to have old period properties! Gurrr! . . . Anyways! Reason being. Wallshield! Whole exterior of lovely old rendered and beamed Suffolk long house been done with the evil stuff! Render i can deal with. But they have done what were exposed beams with one of there products to. Not seen it before!? New owner wants it removing. Looks like high build brown satin laytex coating. Can't find no reference to it? Has anyone came across same prob? If so how did you remove it? Don't think complete removal possible because of the rough split nature of the old oak beams. Reluctant to use heat gun Big fire risk) and not sure chemical stripper will be up to the job. They don't want sand blasting as afraid it will damage render and beams where soft. Hard work and time consuming any which way. Thinking linbide scrapers, sanding disc on angle grinder and just hard graft? Any recommendations and advice appreciated. Not a job i really want but they are old customers of mine. Cheers. Scully
Can’t say I’ve heard of it. Weathershield and Stormshield yes, but not that one. Sounds like a nightmare. All I can suggest for a quick fix is to overpaint the beams in matt black. Removal will be horrendous; make sure you’re on time and materials! 🙂
strimmer_13
Yea i just googled it, sounds a right pita. Think a sanding disc and a wire brush in a drill is about as fast as your going to get
