Ferretboy111
My ESS truffle is 6 months old next week, i havent rushed anything with her at all as i dont want to ruin her, At the moment she sits, and comes back to me to her name and "here", retrieves but not back to hand and hunts well. Anyway, im not 100% comfortable with her and the sit command as yet so ill persist with that before i move on with anything else. The only real problems im having at the moment, is that she keeps jumping up at everyone including myself, not sure really what is best to deal with that problem, also she tends to like to pick up dead things and prance about with them in her mouth. Example, yesterday she found a black mouldy myxy rabbit, and she wouldnt come back to me for me to get it off her. My old springer used to do the same, i suppose i cant really do anything about that, can i? atleast she is picking up dead things?? Anyway, ill try and get some recent pictures of her so you can see her beauty. Be towards the end of the week, watch this space. MC
Alex, Sounds like you need to start teaching two commands, NO and LEAVE, I use to have the same problem with Merlin, the jumping on people they will grow out of but the no command will help. It helps if you explain to everyone that you do not want her to jump up ad she is only doing it for attention. If the people are told to push her down and ignore her she will soon get bored, the temptation with a puppy is to make a fuss of it and if one person does this then Truffle will think that everyone is fair game. All dogs love things that are rotten and smelly, by teaching her to LEAVE then this will help. You can do it indoors by ussing a toy and throwing it for her and telling her to leave it, not letting her get it. If she brings a rotting mess back to you then sorry mate you just have to take it and praise her. When you start training proper retreives she will know the difference between finding something and being sent for something. Don't spend to much time on the sit command and not do other things, she may well be bored with sitting all the time. Keep it short and keep it fun.
