Mungler
This year's chilli plants are coming on nicely, I have about 150 plants accross about 12 different varieties. If anyone wants any then I'll bring them to the next meet. I normally wait until the second week of May before hardening off and putting into grow bags outside the greenhouse. Having a go at tomatoes, corriander and onions as well this year. Onions don't look to clever at the moment mind you.
henry d
If you have any red habanero or similar, chillies or plants available for the Bisley meet, I would be much obliged as I`m working on smoking them(yeah I`m ready for the pelters!) to make Chipotle. Suffolk shooter
Mung, I'll take a couple of plants off of you. My chilli plant I have had for the last three years and has flowered and fruited every year has given up the ghost and isn't even getting leaf on it this year. Looks like a deader than dead twig. Mungler
is it too late to start some jalapeno from seed? reading some websites i am about a couple of months late. is it worth trying some? Bit late to sow seeds now, I started mine off 6 weeks ago from seed and they are now at about 6". I have done about 20 Jalapenos - not my favourite but easy to grow and fruit well. If you are at Bisley you can take some back. Henry and SS, let me know what you need. I didn't bother with Habaneros this year as the last lot didn't work well. If I get the time I will list the ones I am growing, but mainly I have gone for Thai Hot (and variants thereof) as the last lot of Thai hots I did from seed (North Devon Chilli Farm) fruited really well and the chillis were the best tasting. They are top of the shop hot, but for cooking the easiest way to get the heat down is to cook / fry them off. No dish needs more than 3 of them ever and 1 chopped very fine adds plenty of heat. It's easy to forget how hot the little blighters are - even a day after chopping a rub of the nose quickly reminds you.
