Winchester Select Sporter - Any good ?

August's Sporting Gun carried a brief look at a new one of these. They appear good value at £921 rrp and are made in Belgium.

I know that the earliest ones had the reputation for being muzzle-heavy.

Has anyone had a look at the latest models/shot one/bought one yet ?

I am contemplating chopping semi & sbs in for a decent OU...always liked Berettas, but, well, everyone's got one, and I fancy buying new but can't imagine stretching to the Berettas..

I shot a Winchester Select for a couple of years and changed it for a Blaser a year ago.

The are very similar to a Beretta in design but have the Browning quality.

The new ones claim to have a better balance but that is a personal thing anyway. You cannot go far wrong with one. They have gone up quite a bit in the last 3 years then because I paid £650 for mine brand new from Avalon Guns.

if you can find one of the older winchester 101 series or a 5500/6500 buy it .it will be ten times the gun the new one will be.new winchesters in my opinion dont have the balance and feel of the older ones.

couldn't agree more about the 101,used it for ages and still very good-very tempted to get the 20 bore this week as Southams in Bedford had one up for auction, but the travelling and the fact that they auction their certificate stuff last means a long day ,and if you don't have the winning bid its a bit of a downer.

They seem to always get a good write up in the shooting Mags.
