Had a red Letter day

i have been watching a field of uncut barley that has just been left ( god knows why ) for a few days now and it has been blue with pigeons, i had noticed that nobody seemed to be shooting them so i called at the farm to ask for permission on monday evening, the farmers wife told me that he was not in, but could not see a probleem as nobody shoots on the farm  and i was to call back yesterday morning.

so at 8.30am i was on the guys doorstep and knocking the door, his wife answers again and says" i have spoken to him and he says yes you can shoot as many as you want, he his here if you want a word" ,so i talk to the farmer and he tells me that its fine to shoot them and maybe come and shoot the rabbits too as nobody else does it :welcomeani:.

I rang Magman up to see if he fancied a days shooting but he could not get from work untill 2.30pm, which was ok as te pigeons seem to be flighting better in the afternoon anyway. i told Rob the address and whwre the field was and for him to meet me there when he could, as i would set up the decoys, magnet, hide etc before he got there so we could start as soon as.

i got to the field about 1.00pm and sat and watched the flight lines etc and noticed that the power lines were full of woodies and so were 3 trees that i intended setting the hide up under, i sat for about half an hour and there was a costant stream of pigeons coming in, so went to set up all the stuff by which time it was about 2.00pm. I sat for a while and waited, with not a lot going on :P , then a couple of pigeons came in and i shot 1 , then another pair came in and i shot another, right time to put them on the magnet - then all hell broke loose pigeons coming in every couple of minutes, by the time rob came at 2.30pm i had already shot about 15 ( and missed quite a few i may add), Rob arrived got in the hide and started on em straight away , with pigeons coming in at about 5 minute intervals.

then about 4.00pm some guy stops his car by the gate, jumps out and comes storming across the field too us, so i get out the hide and ask him whats up - he says that he does the moles and vermin control on this farm and what i am doing there ? so i says the farmer game me permission and if any body wants to complain then they are to go ad see him, at which point he calms down and aks the farmers name, so i tell him and then the bloke is ok with me and we start chatting- i then find out he used to go to my dads estate to do some foxing and we start to get on well, he then invites me to go duck shooting with him and he would also get me some more pigeon shooting  , whilst i am taking to the guy, i look down the field to see about 200 + pigeons coming straight into the decoys  and shout too rob - he ducks down in the hide and then shoots a nice couple of pigeons and they all fly off again, but keep coming back during the day.

we finished at about 6.30pm and had shot 118 pigeons for 200 shells - cracking red letter day was had by both.

Pic of some of yesterdays bag - we still were picking em up at this stage

A good day by the sound of things, wish it was that easy to get permission all the time, just shows right place right time, good stuff.

i am having a good week this week on the permission side of things, i noticed on the way home that a golf cousre near to where we shot the pigeons was covered in rabbits, so i gave them a ring this morning to see whats what and to say i would love to go shoot em for them, the guy says no problem mate come down this afternoon and well give you a permission letter.

Not been this good for ages :welcomeani:

see cold calling does work and it aint that hard to get permission if you try, it just takes the balls to go and ask
