Purely from a technical point of view, that thread being what it is, I'd be inclined to protect it from continual use - unless you're going to leave the mod' permanently installed - and permanently-ish fit the adaptor. Once on a gun I tend to leave a mod in place and consider it part of the gun from then on, only with my Stealth do I remove it but that's a brake down gun, but agree best not to over work a thread if you can. oddbob
I've been using an Alecto for a couple of years now, and have some thoughts on it. As an old-timer, my eyes aren't as good as they used to be, and the whole sight issue has been, well, a bit of an issue. I tried a PAO 2x20 pistol scope. Just couldn't get on with it, the eye relief was so difficult to get right. The mounts were also an issue until I found a set on fleabay which didn't have the clamping bolts set low, thus avoiding the one-slot problem. I've also tried a few red dots and holographic sights too. currently it's wearing a Marchwood red dot, which has a really fine dot but I've had to mount it in a high one piece mount due to it being a 30mm body and that one-slot weaver rail. That one-slot rail was pixxing me off so much, I bought a spare top frame to modify, but the moulding is too thin around the rear sight to start cutting away material to add a longer rail. Then I fitted it with a shoulder stock, which are like hens teeth apparently. This is very long in the reach, even on it's shortest setting, and I think it's designed to use the gun as a pistol, but braced like a rifle, if you catch my drift. But I wanted a carbine, so removed a little bit to bring that red dot closer, and as such, it works quite well. A scope would have been better, but again, that scope rail rears it's ugly head again. Anyone remember the Sharp Innova? And the Webley Rebel copy? Their valves work in a similar way to the Alecto/Zoraki ones, they're dump valves, unlike the valves fitted to just about all other pneumatic airguns, so have no hammer. That's why they're so quiet. With a Weihrauch moderator fitted, I can shoot it with 3 pumps per shot and the loudest sound is the action closing or the pellet hitting the target. If some enterprising company could make a scope rail which was longer (with a solid mount where the rearsight is fitted) this pistol (or carbine) could be just that little bit better, or maybe the MKVI could incorporate it from the outset.....
