Tom Janaway
The FAO came to my house to interveiw me today. I was quite exited because I was sure i would get granded a sgc, and then i could be shooting withing a few weeks. Wow was i wrong. He came in and sat down in the kitchen, and my mum made him a cuppa. He interveiwed me and said there was no reason to deny me a sgc. Obiviously i thought great. Then came the bad news, He told me that because i was only 16 my cousin would have to be with me at all times while i was shooting. He then goes on to tell me that because im only 16 i can't own a gun . so i'm going to have to give money to my cousin and he will have to buy me a gun, then it will have to be kept at his house until im 17. What a waste of £100 on a cabinet i cant use for 5 months :( :(. So my mum Decided that she will get a sgc, so he gives my mum the form's to fill out later. He then goes on to say that because they are so busy that it could be 12 weeks before she gets granted a sgc. Well obviously im a bit dis-hartned, So i have a few questions that i hope you can answer. 1. I have a securly fitted cabinet, and he checked it and aproved it, so if i was given a gun as a gift could i keep it at my house, even though im the only one living here that owns ( will own ) a sgc? 2. Am i not alowed to go shooting by myself on my own land just because im not 17? thanks for reading, ToM
Hunter
Unless the shotgun laws have changed (they may have) I was fairly certain you could own a shotgun at 14? I think Ferret Master has shotties and hes bellow your age. Someone will be along shortly to explain im sure. But what ever you do, do NOT apeal. they will make it very tough for you and it could land you in more trouble. I find it very strange that he drove there to tell you in that way.. if he knew you could not have your SGC, then he wouldn not have driven there. If you are a member of BASC, give them a ring too. Dont give up EDIT TO ADD: You would do well to join a club. FLO's are very keen on all shooters being a member of a regular club, wher you will learn gun safety etc. I hads no trouble with my FAC/SGC as I could show propper previous training. (shooting black dots on paper, not quite like the real thing in the field..)

Dont give up Oh, i was granted a sgc, but i was just told that i cant have any guns on my licance, and that i need to be supervised at all times by my cousin. I just think its a bit stupid if that is the case.

Hunter
Read this Cheers! I was finding it strange that you can get a certificate but no guns, untill remembered that you can borrow/lend shotguns
Tom Janaway
Read thishttp://www.basc.org.uk/media/young_people_and_shotguns.pdf Thanks for that . So i am alowed to have a gun on my licance, but i still have to be supervised by a person over the age of 21. does the person that is 21 or over also have to have a sgc?. Hunter
I dont think so, since you are the licence holder borrowing said shotgun. Just need someone old with you to make sure you are up to trouble I have the feeling that the age for shotguns changed recently. This is why some young people on here have got theirs. You will just have to wait it out it looks like. But in the mean time, get saving for a nice gun or two!

I may be wrong, but il hit google now and see when this happened. EDIT: hmm now im confused, I found these guidlines from 00' http://www.met.police.uk/firearms-enquiries/govprops.htm Any young shooters got their certificate recently?
