henry d
Lucky Jim, had said he`d seen a "Good few" woodpigeon about on one of our permissions and as we were both off work we decided to give it a whirl even though the conditions were to be less than perfect, easterly wind 6-8mph and sunny but clouding later. Well to say it was quiet was an understatement, I went to a nearby copse to see if I could get a few birds moving and as there was a grey squirrel in the canopy I decided to shoot it and there was 1 pigeon in the copse where usually there are 20-30 Anyway after 2 hrs of little activity birds started to [pour into the pattern in 1`s and 2`s and also 10+ groups. I wasnt happy with the way the birds were coming in as there were few shots for Jim so I played with the pattern and eventually the birds were coming in and giving us both a decent crack at them. We ended up with 57 woodpigeon 5 scuts(ferals)and a single squirrel. We had just about packed all the gear in the motor when Jim says "Dinnae ******* move !!!" so I didn`t as he had his gun in his hands. around 50 Canada geese were coming straight for us at about 15 m off the ground, however they simply moved 100 m downwind and Jim missed his opportunity, however if we had been less eager to get home they would have passed right over the hide and it would have been a bigger celebration.
