NoBodyImportant
Testing my homemade primers. These are made with crushed up strike anywhere matches. The gas check is cotton ball and beeswax. Sorry for the crude video as I’m not a YouTuber https://youtu.be/1zSAYM95z-0 Edited January 26, 2022 by NoBodyImportant
Minky
Would it be feasible to use the strips of caps that we used to put/use in toy cowboys and Indians type cap pistols ect. I wouldn't even know if stuff like that is sold in the General scene now of politically correctness. Boys nowadays would rather have a dolly or play computer games than go out slaughtering indigenous colonial fellows or mooching the countryside. The toy caps would ignite if put in between the primer cap and the anvil. whether there would be enough flash to ignite a powder charge would be down to experimentation. Maybe in conjunction with a few flakes of powder in the primer cap. If this was possible the ignition would probably be variable thus affecting burn speed, velocity and subsequently accuracy. Very rudimèntary last ditch stuff. I saw a vid clip of someone trying to re prime .22 rd using match head material. The outcome was feeble and very inaccurate. This is down to prepers and survivalist types. Toy gun caps https://www.amazon.co.uk/Peterkin-4090-100-Shot-Caps/dp/B000H8XSPO
snarepeg
Used to use the match heads with a muzzle loader, black powder ignighted fine. crushed ( gently) match head in a cat slug push on to nipple. it didn't ignight nitro well. But a pinch of black into barrel first and it worked. i do realise now we were playing with fire but 70 odd years ago We tried anything to get a bang😊
Minky
Cat slugs.! Now that goes back into the dark distant past a bit. I'm a bit surprised that there isn't much about primer substitution online but what there is seems to come down to crushed match heads and the ignition isn't very consistent. I did see a prepers type vid and the ammo either didn't go bang or was so inconsistent that the accuracy was so rubbish that it would be hit and mis on a rabbit at 10 paces. A Gat gun would be more lethal. when I was a kid my air rifle was more effective ..... when a drip of red diesel was dropped into the piston chamber. I actually experienced recoil and the pellets would go right through my mates heavy duty dustbin. His mum was well hacked with us. PS. edit. I just watched that YouTube clip. well It went bang and it sounded reasonable . The box was reasonably peppered with shot. the barrel wall thickness on that 410 is so much that it is like an African hunting rifle. How are you loading that shell.? How much powder/ what wadding and how much shot.? How are you sealing the cartridge off.? PPS. Don't make shot from car batteries. It is highly toxic and you'll either kill yourself with the poisonous fumes or the contaminated shot. That aside from blowing your head off.
