Hi ,

I have a jack russell terrier around 12 wks now, hes good as gold, quiet at night but barks every morning like clockwork at 6.30. I feed him but he continues to bark, as soon as hes let out of his run to the house hes fine again, but this is a bit early to get up every day ! I know hes still young and is hungry but can i manage to stop him barking so early ?

Also he lives in a kennel and run, he pees on the paper and no 2 on the paper . But he never has a number 2 on the grass when he goes for a walk. How can i encorage him to do this ?

Soz for a long explanation, hope some of you have some good advice to help. Hes a cracker of a dog, comes from working parents and very much a show dog, il post a pic soon !

Thanks

I'm guessing he's waking you up and its working, make sure he's not barking when you let him out but it is difficult if he's waking the neighbours. My new pup has tried the same thing and touch wood I seem to have sorted by ignoring it for a while till she has gone quiet then letting her out after a pause.

I have used the bucket of water treatment, if the dog is barking during the night and keeping you awake, I'ld run down stairs throw a bucket of water over him and lock him in the kennel and back to bed, if that doesn't work and if he starts again give him the hose in the door. If you get up and give him what he wants he'll start taking the ****, if you ignore him and let him bark the night away, you'll lose a nights sleep and your neighbours will probably ring the cops.

Also get into the habit of ignoring the dog when you first see him in the morning or coming home from work, it's a dominance thing, by acknowledging the dog you make it feel like its the boss and you are the underdog, hope this helps and good luck

wow the dog barks, you come down and feed him, he barks some more and you let him out of the run. you've taught him how to get what he wants.

when my dog barks when its not wanted he gets a firm NO! he has learnt quickly enough that he can bark if theres something outside but thats it, no matter what you do if you reward negative behavior the dog learns from that and will continue.
