Tyres certainly make a difference. My 110 station wagon dropped 3mpg when I changed from road biased standard tyres to BFG mud terrains. But it’s no use having a fierce dog and pulling it’s teeth out.

We did a 153 mile round trip on Monday and my wife’s Discovery Sport did 47mpg. That is with wifey driving, and she is on and off the accelerator all the time. I generally get about 2mpg more.
