Lucid
Hello there i am hoping to pick my sako quad .22lr up this week and was wondering if i get a .17hmr barrel is it classed as a new grant or variation. cheers for any help I'm going to add the barrel too, and was told by the Firearms Dept that I would need to apply for a Spare Barrel Slot, stating that it was for the Sako Action already owned. I don't understand your question about the New Grant / Variation ... If you require an extra slot, you need to apply for a variation, either requesting an extra slot, or making a one-for-one variation for another slot that you are not using ... steve b
you will need to add the new calibre as if it is a whole new rifle
Down South
I've just added a new barrel to my Sako quad. You apply for a variation for the extra barrel that you want and not a complete rifle. RFD can't sell you a barrel if you have a slot for a gun and vice versa. DS. Dave-G
If you don't have a slot for 17hmr it will need to be a variation procedure. It's best to discuss this with the firearms dept to find out how best to word it in this unique applications. FWIW - it would be marginally more likely to be granted than another complete rifle as it's still only one rifle that could fall into the wrong hands or overfill a cabinet. You could also safely take both calibers out with you and leave a barrel in the car without the risk of leaving a usuable firearm in it.
