I've contacted on short term contracts, 3 months at a time after being made redundant,  it never was 3 months,  I think the minimum was about 5, and your earning more short term with no benefits whilst watching the job market for other opportunities while you do as many hours as you can manage. 

The more precarious your job seems the greater the percentage rises.
