redial
With the dark nights here, I was thinking about getting one for a gate that I can’t see from the house. Any advice welcomed. Thank you. Edited November 23, 2023 by redial Error

redial
Thanks, the gate is about 30, yards from the house. Just can’t see it, I have a bell wired on to the handle at the moment but wouldn’t hear it inside the house.
scarecrow243
just remember to disconnect it when you go too open the gate or you will need new under wear 🤣😂

Downforce
We use an infrared PIR sensor with a remote chime - you can get them that both run on batteries or the chime (inside the house) runs on mains. There’s a few walls between the two parts and probably 20-25m so should work for 30m if you have not got loads of walls between them. The PIR will pick up a person or a Labrador dog sized animal The specific model we have is 1 by one - wireless driveway alert doorbell kit The two sensor version is £52 on Amazon and although we only use one sensor I deliberately bought the two sensor pack so I could replace the sensor when it got skanky The first sensor lasted 2-3 years then packed up and the second has been in for about 2-3 years now One tip if you do use a PIR sensor outdoors is to position it so the sunlight doesn’t go straight into it at sunrise/sunset otherwise you’ll get false alerts when the sun is low in the sky and going in and out of clouds D
redial
Thank you. Being a bit of a dinosaur I wasn’t aware of a remote chime but I like the idea. The tip about positioning and the sun is interesting. Cheers.
J.R.
If you have wi-fi that can be detected at the gate on your phone then the signal is strong enough to install a mini cctv camera there that will record and notify you of any activations.......something like a doorbell camera.
