no as the chamber (neck section) to accommodate the .223 Remington round is a different profile to a 5.56 NATO round.

conversely,you can shoot 7.62 x 51 in a .308 but not .308 in 7.62 chambered gun as the profiles are the same.

this is because military brass is thicker so contains less powder than .308 giving different pressure values.

Going back a few years, my old .223 Ruger M77 would group 1/2” at 100 metres with federal factory and 1 1/4” with my home loads which was fine for me. I was given some 5.56 mb which tumbled and keyholed the target at 25 metres. Needless to say I got rid of the 5.56 ammo!
