Blackpowder
Does anyone know how the additional amounts of Pre 97 and Post 97 additions to state pension are calculated. My Pre97 is £1 94 My post 97 is £00. 07 Over a working life I perhaps had 1 week unemployed and 8 weeks off through illness. Recently a female relation showed me her benefits statement where her Pre and Post 97 payments exceeded £50, this relation had time of to raise 4 children and would have fewer NI contributions than mine. TOPGUN749
In most cases a mother who doesn’t work but claims child benefit for any child under 12 gets automatically credited for National insurance as is working, this may not answer your question though. My sister who only worked about 3 years in her life before marrying will still qualify for 90% of her state pension as she had 27 years credits. Sounds unfair while I paid many thousands in national insurance!

Blackpowder Not sure what you mean by pre and post 97 payments. However the State Pension is a very complex calculation and is totally dependent on individual circumstances. It is near impossible for any 2 people to have the same life history re qualification. Number of years employment, wages earned, higher or lower level National Ins payments, child benefit claimant, other benefit claimant, contracted in or out of state scheme, private pension contribution , graduated Pension addition, Serps addition, SSP 2 Addition, voluntary payment's......and the list goes on! The full picture is needed for true comparison.Person forecasts can be obtained online at a yougov site and often any shortfall can be made up voluntarily. As an aside, I had 49 years contributions and had to make extra payment. I was contracted out of state scheme for a time and paid lower Nat Ins.
