Guest raymond1
Right Guys: The largest shot I've managed to make is bordering on 6.5 (2.5mm). This done by having very little molten lead in the melter. More lead makes the droplets smaller. (Example: Ferret Master has used my No. 8 shot for clays.) To make round shot of 2.8mm (No. 5) you really need a 180ft shot tower! i thought the old ely tower was only 120 foot,......any way ,what your saying is to make no 5s is quite difficult without the use of a tower ? ,typicaly i dont have the use of a tower , i suppose making shot for clay busting is more practicle than for game loads ,and i had a notion that number 5 shot would be the maximum shot size for a "do it yourselfer",.........back to the drawing board if no-one has any other ideas ,........thanks for your input guys

I met him at Lyalvale in the 90's! I've been making shot since 1973 and never made shot that big! (Tell a lie! I have made big 'Smarties' when the shot sticks on the ramp!) well FT thanks for your advice ,it will save some grief by not trying to make shot that size then ,the larger sizes i am well stocked with ,its just that 5s are now extinct in the stores  so i guess i will have to go back to the old fashioned way ,...............................and buy it ,.thanks again mate
Evil Elvis
Out of curiousity, how much do you pay for your lead, and where would you get it from? I have loads somewhere left from when I did a lot of deep see fishing and made my own leads. Does it work out cheaper to make your own 6.5 then? I would use 6.5 for pigeons.
