Hi, another newbie here

Recommended Posts

Okay here goes… I have an air gun (BSA repeater), pigeons to shoot (they nest/roost in trees on my land) and a burning desire to (a) stop the little darlings defecating all over my garden furniture and (b) I’m a big fan of pigeon breast, although understand it needs to be consumed in moderation. Would like to tap into the vast experience/knowledge out there to help point me in the right direction and start off on the right foot (and not shoot it!) My only plea is, please be gentle with me as my ego can only stand so much ridicule…

Hello and welcome mate i dont think you can eat enough pigeon breasts to do you any harm

Welcome to pigeon watch.

There used to be a theory doing the rounds that too much pigeon is bad for you, but probably an old wive`s tale. I have eaten pigeon sometimes twice a week for more years than I remember and I`m still here after 65 years of shooting them, so they cannot do you too much harm.

Interesting that the link from Sunderland Airguns quotes the GL43 regarding crop damage. I suppose you could argue that if they are eating your garden cabbages etc, then it`s OK to shoot them. I personally wouldn`t shoot them in the garden and like to see them about, but perhaps someone with a big garden or small holding, then that`s a different matter. That link also correctly mentions a backstop as it`s illegal for pellets to travel beyond your own boundary.
