paul1966
We are having our kitchen extended and so it will need rewiring, at the minute the upstairs and downstairs are on one ring, Ideally I want the kitchen on it's own circuit, The consumer unit has spare spaces but when the time comes is the CU compliant with todays regs or would the sparkie want to update the CU? There are exceptions where the current board doesn’t meet certain requirements, but also depends on whether or not you’re installing a new circuit (in which case the new circuit needs to be fully compliant). This could be in the form of a mini board to cover the new circuit/s only if cost is an issue. The board you’ve got isn’t compliant with current regs, so yes you should expect a suggested board change if new circuits are being installed. As I said above they may suggest installing a small board alongside your existing one. The earth bonding to your services would also need to be ‘up to scratch’ I.e gas and water bonded in the correct size cable.

Rupert
Would put new ring on 10 on an mcb or on 3 with an RCBO

New CU with SPD and rcbo’s I’d imagine anything from £600 upwards depending on other work needed alongside it (bonding etc). Those old Square D board like you have are also obsolete so may be an issue obtaining breakers etc. Edited July 14 by Wilts#Dave
