I have a small pond at the bottom of the croft which ive been feeding a scoop of mixed grains every day, lately a group/family of greylag have taken to staying and grazing the area around it, the grain is gone every day, Im not seening any small feathers as you would expect when duck are using it. Are the greylag enjoying the good life, this has never happend before

I have a few ponds i made Islandgun

One of them is perhaps only 10m x 10 m

I overlook it many night when foxing - i also started with a scoop of grain - it now has like many of the others close to a bag a day !

Happy to send you a video of it if you want to PM your number ? Quite interesting actually

regards

Indeed, include the two songbird feeding stations, fat balls, seed mix and mealworms. It's those Robins following me about that are behind it. Now I'm feeding greylags (possibly) Do greys feed at night ? If not, it's mallard. Spaniel put up a water rail. Today perhaps that's eating the grain

It's really just a bit of wetland really. I dammed a ditch and the area has flooded. In the past I had a camera out and filmed a few mallard feeding but they always left feathers. Why not put up you vid on here it's always interesting to see

They will do, if there's easy grub about.

I waited around at dusk, now see that I have three resident greylags enjoying a paddle and a free mixed grain lunch with a side of grass...but no ducks 😁

Ducks here are moving well after dark Islandgun

Cheers yes that's been the case here as well and that was my hope, unfortunately my new family of greylags have scoffed their tea. No more grain for them, let them find pastures new😉

Would seem to be the solution, getting them to take off is the difficulty..😄

Airborne is optional isn't it 🙂.  If wouldn't be so bad feeding them up if they tasted like fat mallards, but they will still be fat greylags as tough as old boots!

Goose sausage is good though......good luck.
