vole
My last few charter boat outings off Whitby were poor so I packed it in.I know the weather may cause a cancellation but I really fancy having a bash at some winter codling without a trek to the NE.I once heard there were charters doing the Menai Straits which could go out whatever the weather.Anybody got any info? Thanks. The Beater
My last few charter boat outings off Whitby were poor so I packed it in.I know the weather may cause a cancellation but I really fancy having a bash at some winter codling without a trek to the NE.I once heard there were charters doing the Menai Straits which could go out whatever the weather.Anybody got any info? Thanks. vole21, theres few boats run out of beaumaris( google starida) that fish menai straits, & liverpool bay. there are some big cod in there, never boat fished there only beach cast & lost loads & loads of tackle, thats why the good fish are there. alot of rain or snow melt can push fish out of there cos mountains drain in to there. theres also boats out of Amlwich & holyhead that will put you in to deep water or over a wreck also a good option. the mersey has a lot of good cod now, dont no if i'd eat them tho, suppost to be the whiter the belly less time in there. Ceck out wirrelseaangling.co.uk, for info or for wales- google victoriapierangling, in Colwyn bay, ray is very helpfull & will point you in right direction for good cod boat in Anglesey. vole
Thanks,Beater,I,ve heard of Starida.I think its owned by a manchester guy.I was trying to avoid the long trips only to get out to the wrecks only to have the pirks off in the current and youd see em on the surface downtide.I expect the boats you mention would fish fairly shallow marks with bait? Will search those sites, thanks.I hear theres lots of codling caught this year.
hairysausagefingers
Years since I've been out of Whitby - heavy ground and snaggy wrecks as I recall it. Nice ling in with the cod when I used to go. If you want to find some good fish off North Wales, give Andrew Owen a ring on 07778817339. The boat's called Morgan James and it'll Google-up if you search it. Top quality skipper, due for a new catamaran about now. Had some cracking wrecking trips with him, some excellent tope and lots of other species too. He's also done a few winters on the Mersey. We had one Mersey trip with him last year and the fishing wasn't as good as in previous years. We have a good crew of lads, but he'll outfish us blindfolded. He's also had some big porgeagles to the side of the boat in the last couple of years. Moored at Port Dinorwic on the Strait. You can try Starida if you want, but I'd rather spend the extra and be well looked after.....if you know what I mean. (There's charters and then there's charters) Anthony Parry out of Rhyl is also very good. Try Googling "Jensen Charters". They're the only two I'd contemplate sailing with. jimdfish
rhos on sea charters are very good. it is ran from the tackle shop in Rhos. if you want to puke up from the minute you get on until you get off he does not take the mick. every year i book an outing from the pub and every year i am sick before i get on the boat until i get off. i have found rhos to be the best. friendly, and undrstanding. i will go out with him again next year and i will be sick from engine on until engine off but i will try again. he is v good jim
vole
Thanks lads.Do they often get cancelled due to weather?I heard that the Straits could be fished in any conditions but might be wrong. My last 3 Whitby trips ( a while back) drew blanks for most on board. One of the skippers just needed the £ and took us out in unfishable weather. Were in the pub by 11am.Thanks for the contact details
TPR1966
In my eyes m8 if the Skipper cancels the trip then it's for safety reasons and you're life is in their hands. On a few occasions our trips on the Mersey have been cancelled but mostly when the wind is coming from a certain direction as it is very dangerous for the boat to get back into the lock, and can be easy thrown against the walls in real bad weather Been out this morning for my fresh lug for our boat trip coming up on the 13th December on the Mersey BTW if anybody wants any fresh off me @ £2.50 a wrap and far better than the tackle shop, let me know before a fishing trip like if I'm off to Crosby or Mariners, Jag House give me a shout and I'll bring some decent Lug down with me
vole
I agree.Skippers know best and I trust them apart from the one I mention above. Are there lots of codling round the n west as well as down south?
