humbug
hi all, i've just been granted my fac for a .22 rifle and mod. rabbits will be the main target so i've been trawling the net to see which rifle, scope and mod will be best for me. 2 weeks later i'm still undecided so some suggestions from more expierienced guns would be most welcome. thanks in advance brian. humbug
i live just outside turriff, aberdeenshire and have around 100 acre of land to shoot at the moment, roe deer, fox, rabbit, pheasant all present but i thought i'd start with a .22 as i'm not all that interested in taking out the deer. semi was my first choice but have read that they're not as accurate as a bolt but would a bolt be suitable for rabbits?? price would be between £500 and £1000 for the lot. brian. Oly
£500 - £1000 will pay for top of range - i.e. Anschutz (bolt action) or nice custom Ruger 10/22. Anschutz IMO mass make the best & most accurate guns in the world. However, if you really like semi's a custom Ruger 10/22 will outshoot 95% of the guys behind them and will jam very infrequently if set up right. A company called rimfire magic may be able to help you out, happy hunting! :yp:
Aldo
Have a think about the Sako Quad. I got mine in 22LR to start with and soon got a 17 Mach2 barrel for it. I now have a good quality rifle that can change calibers for around £140 (22LR, 22WMR, 17Mach2 + 17HMR) Recently managed a 7mm group at 120 yards! with the Mach2 Good luck

BSA Shaun
How about you save some money and get a CZ452 silhouette?
JohnGalway
I've got a Sako Quad in .22lr, nice accurate little rifle. Two small complaints, the stock is too short but spacers are available. And sometimes it won't eject a live round as the tip of the bullet gets stuck in the barrel, easily popped out with a small allen key. I like mine and I'll be keeping it. tulkyuk
Scope - go for an MTC viper Mod - a Sak is about the best Bolt actions are the most accurate - but with a semi you can spray bullets, so its down to personal choice
trakker01
an older ,better quality one......imo.........a bolt action that feels comfertable to hand, nowt too fancy if ya using it regular, but a reliable, fuss free.......... threaded, sak mod, spare mag.......good scope! spend £100-150 rifle & same again + on scope, (this will go to other rifles) as the rimmy is the smaller stepping stone, depending how ya get into the sport.. gppd luck & happy days.....
