Martingale collars

Cranfield,

The problem with the martingale, choke collars, pinch collars, or slip collars when left on a dog is the free ring.....the free ring is the one the lead attatches to.........most times what happens is the collar rotates so the ring is hanging down. This creates a danger as the ring can then slip between deck spacings, floor cracks, or any other small space. As the dog lifts its head the ring turns slightly, lodging and the dog panicks pulling back choking itself.

I do not leave any type of training collar on my dogs. They only wear one when I am training. The rest of the time I use a flat collar. If I need a little extra control on the flat I build it with a limited slip in it. The collars I make are one piece with no buckels but have a solid d ring. Basically they are my old sledding collars and if they could hold Rusty and Main.......both of which could break and pull 1800 pounds from a stand still......I am sure one would be fine for Bramble.

If you want PM me the skull measurement at the ears......the widest part of the head to slip over.......and the measurement of her neck where you want the collar to fit, and I will sew one up for you and get it in the mail this week.

That is exactly the same as my springers old collar.

She didnt have any problems with getting hung up in it but we dont have open floor boards.

Ours are close by way of tongue and grove.

We do have a bone shaped tag which is quite chunky, on it so that could be a consideration for you.

Interesting post as I havent heard of this problem before.

Worth keeping an eye on if anyone else has this sort of collar in use.
