This is a fun one.

I moved here from America when I was 12,(now 41) eventually ending up on a council estate in Birmingham. Southern accent in the middle of chav central? I wanted a brummie accent more than anything so I could fit in.

Oh yeah, laugh now but I was forever getting into fights because of my accent :friends:

When I go back to the states my southern accent returns very quickly, like before leaving the airport usually, two weeks back in England and I am a brummie again

I have noticed though that in the US with a US accent you get exactly the same service as you do with a British accent.

But in the UK with a US accent the service is worse, you tend to be kept waiting longer, food orders take longer and occasionally you get overlooked in favour of a British person.

As for being a redneck, hell yeah still now after all this time.

Being southern is a state of mind and there is a little bit of redneck in all of you
