A lot depends on the weather, on wet mornings the birds often stay in the woods a bit longer and in prolonged heavy rain they may stay there all day.

There is food in the woods, so they don't always have to go to the fields.

It also varies in some areas.

I use to shoot a farm with some small 4-5 acre fields surrounded by woodland, they were extremely well sheltered and the birds fed there all day regardless of any weather conditions.

Being on your land and looking in all conditions and times, helps you build up your local "picture".
