Because if you add the 2 digits of any two digit number together then the range of figures can only be: (number 10) becomes 1 and (number 99) becomes 18. You will find (as if by magic) that the magic symbol whilst it changes each time you try - the same magic symbol is allocated to the 9 times table 9, 18, 27, 36, 45 and so on will all have the same "magic" symbol. Now I know that in deepest Suffolk mathematics, science and other such learnings are the work of the devil, so lets just leave it that a demonic gopher does have the power to read your mind. Mungler nailed it. Its a very old one and has been done loads of times.
