lurcherboy
The rottie and I choose Comet in Canterbury to buy a new fridge freezer from in June 2007. It cost £429.99, Delivery £18.95, 5 year warranty £149.99 and £15.00 to remove the old unit. Everything went fine with delivery etc. and it worked well until the 7th of January. Then the fridge stopped working so we called the warranty dept who said we would have a engineer with us on the 9th January. The rottie took the day off work as they can only do a visit between AM and PM. The engineer left a printout saying the main PCB board was not activating the fan and a new board was required. He said he would be back to fit it on the 19th January. I took that day off from shooting so he could fit the board and repair the fridge. He said it would take 24 hours to reach the correct temperature and I gave him a cockle as he left looking forward to having some cool beer back in the fridge. On the 21st January it was apparent that the bloody fridge still wasn't working. Another phone call to the warranty department resulted in visit on the 24th January to be done within AM and PM which meant another day off for the rottie. The engineer reported that the fan unit was iced and if we emptied the freezer (which was packed with meat and game) defrost it for 48 hours (its a frost free fridge freezer) everything would be OK. Organised freezer space with 4 neighbours and done what was suggested. Fridge and now freezer are now both now working. Called the warranty department again and got a date for a visit, the 4th of February It will be a few days short of a month without a fridge and I will take the day off for this one. If the 'engineer' for want of a better word hasn't fixed it I will be holding him hostage until he does. This is a quote from their warranty package. We love fixing things. We've got the largest retail team of professional appliance engineers in the UK who provide a straightforward repair service six days a week. We provide timed appointments Monday - Saturday and you can select: Morning (8AM - 12PM) Afternoon (1PM - 6PM) All day (8AM - 6PM) You have been warned so give them a very wide berth. sidibear
Insist on a replacement or cash back. Could be worth an email to the head office too Edited January 25, 2008 by sidibear
pin
A long long time ago I used to sell such warranties, then I was in charge of an engineering department tasked with repairing things under said warranty. I'd never buy an extended product from the retailer selling the goods, ever. Comet, Pc-World (dixons etc) - they are all the same - worthless morons who will spend twice the replacement cost in refusing to replace something

gibby
The best place i have ever found for a warrenty is Cost-Co. They provide a life time warranty with all electrical goods purchased. Gibby
Big_Sam
If you have a warrenty use it. Not that fixing rubbish, insist on a brand new unit that must be delivered the same day they take the other one away (saves you getting the same one back again). Heck I am a but ruthless when I buy something that has a warrenty, I used the maxium if it goes wrong, and if they moan I go straight to the top, its amazing what wonders can happen when you phone up the manager in person.
