Tarlair
Hi Guys I was on an organised fox shoot on a local(ish) estate today. We had a squad of guns round the woods and the foxes were driven out to us. The total for the day was 5 and I managed one of them. Great day, temperature was 11 degrees, in good company. What more could you ask for? Keeper was well pleased into the bargain.

Ferretboy111
Certainly a very effective way of removing foxes. I was thinking about trying to organise a day myself, but with railway lines and footpaths everywhere i decided not too. Alex
casts_by_fly
where were you finding the foxes hanging out? What type of terrain were they holding in? Thanks rick
Tarlair
Casts by Fly Three were in mixed woodland. There was a pair which were in rough scrub which has grown up where a wood was cut down a couple of years ago. Being a warm sunny day, they were basking above ground. al4x
It can be a cracking way of getting on top of foxes but you need very trustworthy guns safety wise. Sounds like a good day was had by all especially the keeper
Tarlair
You're right al4x, safety is paramount as in all shooting. Guns are only there by invitation and must be known to the keeper or come highly recommended. I was flattered to be asked. Like the ratting thread recently on here, you really must trust the guns although we were not working at such close ranges. Jim

alexm
You're right al4x, safety is paramount as in all shooting. When we do these we have a line of guns with their backs to the woods facing out into a field. The beating line then drives the fox out into the field from behind the guns so there is no possibility of low shots in the direction of the line. It does have its hazards though... One year we made the mistake of getting the line of guns hidden in a ditch in the same field that the farmer had just decided needed 'fertilising'. The guys were watching the tractor doing a slow circuit of the field. It got half way round the outside of the field before they realised they were about to be covered in slurry and blew the emergency abort whistle before legging it!
