That time of year

We had a walk with the mutt round some fields near us on Saturday, and they were ploughing in the cover crop on the local shoot.

I couldn't help noticing just how much rat activity there had been, husks of maize all over the place and then we saw a fat backside just scurrying down a hole.

One sniff of that and that was it, the dog was on one :good:

He made for the base of a rotten tree and was convinced there was something in there that needed his attention.

I was case of him thinking "I know it's in there" and us thinking "I don't think it is you know"

I'm not giving up.

Wicked, its great when a dog knows what it is doing with its quarry.

We tried smoking out rats along my cover crops for my terrier friend of mine, but because they arent used for rats they took their time working out what the whole scenario was.

Im fed up with them now and have run a line of fenn traps and bait stations.

He isn't that interested in rabbits, he takes the odd mixy one now and again, but show him a rat (or I am afraid a cat!) and the red mist descends.

It's obviously what he was born to do.

Difficult to describe it would need a photo but the shape of his face changes - bit like Milo in The Mask :good:
