Si-Bore
Hi guys I held a new 686e with 30" barrels today and loved it! I have been looking at the beretta range - it is vast and many options. Is the main difference between the 686 and 687 range the engraving? I am not sure if I would want a 'game' gun or 'sporter'? I do most of my shooting at pigeon and crows from a hide. The sporters I take are a bit heavier than the game - what do you guys use for pigeon decoying? What are the main differences between sporters and game guns? Cheers Si
mosa
In my limited experience your right a 28" game gun is lighter if your rough shooting etc but i found the 30" sporter swings through the target better. This is just my opinion. You will get 1/2 saying 28" and the same saying 30". Some like 30" as can be used for clays and game. I think its what ever you feel good with Edited February 21, 2008 by mosa

Yonic
Si-Bore. I use a 686E for all my shooting and get on very well with it, It is used for rough shooting , clays and game and I can't fault it, It has the 30'' barrels but I haven't found this to be a problem. When I bourght it ( about 6 years ago) I wasn't planning on spending as much as this was but it just felt right when I mounted it, Don't regret getting it one bit. Hubbertspeak
When I got my 686e 30" sporting, I was told that the action was the same in all the guns up to a point, the only difference was the extent and quality of the engraving. FWIW I'm not as fussed about how pretty the gun is, it's the quality of the engineering that counts - so long as the fit is good.
biblejohn
I looked at the 686 but it was slightly out of my price range, so i went for a lanber o/u instead which had fantastic reviews. Im very happy with it, very nice looking good, good quality workmanship and works well. However, a lot of the guys I used to go clay shooting with had the 686/7 and loved them. Ive used theirs for skeet a few times and liked it too. I seem to remember my local gunsmith telling me that game guns are made so they aim slightly high whereas sporters dont. Maybe someone else can clarify this?
