Ferretboy111
My ESS bitch has been in season now for around 2 weeks or so, during that time i have given up on any sort of training just because she has tended to be very disobedient and also alittle too keen to wander around the shoot, as in getting on a scent and going. Putting it down to her being in season and wanting to find other dogs? Anyone else's dogs go alittle weird when they come on? This is her first season, and she is 11 months old. Many thanks Alex
lurcherboy
I have been lucky to have dogs rather than bitches and the only one I did have was neutered. Don't take your bitch out other than excercising her round the garden. If you feel you have to, carry her to the car so she can't scent the pavement outside your house. Take a baseball bat with you if you do choose to exercise her as a 10 stone rottie will need some heavy duty persuading if it decides to go for it LB
Cranfield
Most bitches go a little bit cranky when in season. I would definitely keep her away from other dogs and don't let her out of your sight. Some people forget that the bitch will go looking for a dog, as well as the other way round. She may be well trained, but if she gets interested, she won't come back when you call. My Grandfather was a shepherd and only worked bitches, he always locked his up when they were in season. When I asked him why he always said, "It draws them further than gunpowder could blow them".

Paul in North Lincs.
in season; a bitches instinct to pro-create can far excell the need for it to do as you tell her........last thing you want is for her to wander off and get lined by any old dog decided to hop -on.... I would keep on her lead........during excercise.......I also hear that bitches in season have fatty deposits that swell around the kidneys and liver that can cause serious health problems if they are over excercised and running around like nutters My lurcher bitch gets very affectionate and wants to rub and cuddle when at the start of the cycle......this usually changes to being reclusive, quiet, lethargic and off her food..........and coming out of the season she drops weight, composition and muscle. can be a serious thing, but effected different dogs in different ways.......
