After spending some of the morning ferreting with Gav I went home via the local Post Office where I was able to exchange the rabbits (entire) for 6 duck eggs <_< Bought my lucky dip for tonight and went home to have 3 egg sandwiches as I was bloody hungry.

I went back to work at 12.00 to fit a set of brake pads for a customer. I didn't want to but I owed him a favour so you do what you have to do to keep the wheels rolling.

Twenty minutes later I was doing the Sherpa tensing bit across the fields to a spot I have been watching for weeks. Every day, no matter what the weather is like, the woodies travel west to east just behind my workshop and along the line of a Dyke to a ivy laden hedgerow. So that's where I set up the deeks, 20 flocked shells courtesy of UKShootwarehouse on springers and 10 from Paul Hart on pegs. I set a very big horseshoe pattern but not regimented, some deaks where within a foot of each other, the nearest being 25 meters away from my hide and the furthest was a good 75 facing the wind which was blowing hard.

I eventually got to sit down in the hide and poured myself a coffee and made a mental note of the time, 13.18, then started to wonder why there was a bloody big hole in my cammo net  Ah, I remember, Dunganick shoot it out last summer, not quite sure why, but it was definitely him :/ I waited and waited and waited for what seemed like ages and at 13.21 I missed my first woodie with both barrels and so it went on for the next 21 carts  It was now 14.15 and as I poured another coffee a pair came in and landed, I shot them both on the deck, sorry Topgunners, and then shot steadily until 16.35 when the wind abruptly stopped and so did the woodies. Sorry to say that there wasn't one double decker either. I ignored them when they came over in numbers letting them land and take off and just shot at the singles and doubles that did commit.

Final count was 46 woodies, 2 rooks and a few ferals for a whole heap of carts. I didn't get anywhere near my target ratio of 3:1 but enjoyed it anyway.

Working my lab Ben, ******* top dog, was the icing on the cake. He done everything I wanted but not necessary in the order I would have liked, cheers son

Roll on feretting and long netting tomorrow in a ancient orchard.
