Hodmedod.one
I have a slot on my FAC for a section 1 shotgun. I currently have a non-FAC Remington 11-87 semi-auto and it is a really good gun. The one criticism I have of it is that the piston assembly and the section of the stainless steel magazine tube that the piston slides on do get really dirty. I clean the gun after every outing and if it has had a lot of cartridges put through it the piston "O" ring type seal can get split when you are trying to disassemble the gun. Because I know what to expect, I am always really careful but still split the seal a couple of times every year. I busted another one yesterday (£5.50 each). One of my mates has just bought a Benelli M2. I haven't had chance to shoot it yet, but I am impressed with the light weight and the fit. The gun fit seems just right for me straight out of the box. It also swings really well. I also like the sound of not having to strip it for cleaning as the inertia system doesn't get dirty. I must say though that the build quality doesn't look as solid as my Remington. I had been intending to purchase a Beretta extrema2. I don't need a 3.5" chamber but like the sound of the beefed up engineering. I have seen on the Beretta website their claim that the gas cylinder, piston and exhaust valve are all self-cleaning. Can anyone comment on the honesty of this claim?
Vegeta
Having owned both a benelli super black eagle 2 (still have this) and and a beretta extrema2 here is my advice on both guns. I am a very lazy shotgun cleaner. My ethos is if the trigger is pulled and the gun goes bang then its not dirty. This may be different if I had a beautiful O/U but I have a semi auto built for rough shooting. The benelli is a magnificent fitting gun as you say. It is a much better fit and handling shotgun than the extrema2. The benelli would be a perfect gun if it cycled flawlessly but alas mine does not. I have found if it is excessively dirty it will jam and if it is not held tightly to the shoulder pocket it will jam. The beretta I had (which I sold to my brother) has never failed to cycle a cartridge of any size in 3 years of use. He also does not clean the gun very often. EDIT: just to add I feel less recoil with the beretta also, especially with the kick off system. If reliability is your main concern then I'd go with the beretta. Infact I am trying to get a decent trade in for my super black eagle versus a new extrema2. If the benelli was as reliable as the beretta then I would take the benelli everyday of the week. Much superior gun to shoot. It aint as reliable though Edited February 27, 2008 by Vegeta
bobby t
i would go Benelli. however, i must admit, if i were ever going to use 3.5" magnums i would have the beretta.to say it is entirely self cleaning is a bit much. everything on any gun will eventually get dirty. the benelli you can get in so many different forms and some have a special stock that will absorb more recoil than others. but it seems too me the benelli is right for you as you say, it fitted right out of the box. Oly
I have a Berrata, but would just prefer a Benelli as I love the simplicity of inertia driven guns
