  1. i think that the chokes are in fact 1/4 and 3/4. if you go to the browning website and download one of their catalouges in PDF they have the choke table and if i remember rightly they are the same as those on mine, which is 1/4 bottom 3/4 top. hope this helps
  2. FAC air rifle? they must be able to bowl rats and rabbits over at 70 yards? i know i can take rabbits with mine at 50yards and that is at 12ft lbs
  3. Miroku Mk38 and you wont go far wrong as far as trap is concerned. i think there probably one of the most sucessful trap guns ever, i suppose perrzzi and remington 1100 are up there aswell though.
  4. brownings 425 comes is realtree as does there cynergy. however these are only in 3.5" chambers.
  5. i would go Benelli. however, i must admit, if i were ever going to use 3.5" magnums i would have the beretta.to say it is entirely self cleaning is a bit much. everything on any gun will eventually get dirty. the benelli you can get in so many different forms and some have a special stock that will absorb more recoil than others. but it seems too me the benelli is right for you as you say, it fitted right out of the box.
  6. i had trouble with lyalvale carts. the primer was sitting slightly low and the pins in my gun were slightly worn and i was only getting half a strike on those carts. gunsmith checked the strength of teh springs and teh pins by firing the pins without the barrel attached but with a 1p piece sitting over the pin.its actually surprising how high it goes. then check it compared to the other barrel as a rough idea. the penny went about 12ft up when i tested it and less on the barrel i was having trouble with. just an idea for you to try.
  7. i have some nickle plated 32gram 3's in a 70mm case there maonchi i think. there definatly italian. also have some 76mm remington nitro steel in 1's so they are available. they wont be cheap but you can get them.
  8. got mine at 11. they need a good reason not to allow him one. if he has permission on land or is a member of a clay ground they should not have any reason to deny him one.
  9. ive heard before that falling ak-47 fire in arab countries (lets face it no celebration in iraq is complete without emptying the magazine on your AK) can kill if it hits someone. apprantly what ft.lbs the american army declares as high enough to wound is less than that of a falling bullet.

    Ooops!

thanks should be able to do that, having a lot of trouble witht the pellets becoming jammed in the breech is it a job for the gunsmith?

    Ooops!

been having a few probems with my falcon multi shot been having pellets jamming and retreating back into the mecanism wher the push rod loader (yer i know technical term) sits, then i know hav 2 or 3 pellets jammed in the barrel and am not sure firing air down it will clear them, any advice welcomed. thanks
  12. would reccomend the miroku mk38 teague, exactly the same in principal as the browning XS, better than the 525 as it has backbored barrels and immensly better chokes. would definatly reccomend them over the beretta silver pig, whilst these are good guns, the miroku is just about the best sporting gun you can buy for £1000 haggle and you'll get it for less than that.
  13. An african swallow or an European swallow?
  14. be aware that the mk70 comes in game and sporter the difference being in the width of the rib, and possibly stock dimensions and weight. the mk60 has a universal varient a fixed choke game sporter with an 8mm rib. the mk38 would be my choice identicle to the browning XS accept for the chokes, its available in fixed choke sporter teague sporter and trap.
  15. fantastic gun however a miroku MK38 is identicle just woithout the afjustable comb. both barreles are back bored miroku being tegue chokes and the actions identicle but the miroku is new for £1000
  16. go for a secoundhand miroku beretta or browning they are around in your budget if you look hard, much better than an equivalent lanber rizzini or bettinsoli, baikals are ok for banging in fence posts but will never let you down, if i had one gun to go intot eh jungle with it would be a baikal, alhtough a little crude they are around £150 .
  17. they are both outstanding guns for the money and i think it will come down to personal preference i after ahndling and shooting both prefer the cynergy both fitted well but the cynergy suited my style more and also from what i hear the cynergy lock up is really exceptionally strong and "wont ever be shot loose" berettas are designed after heavy use to be able to replace the hinge pins but i doubt anyone other than professionsals will shoot enough to loosen them up. both great guns my vote is the cynergy thouigh
  18. seems a fair price to me if you can get it for £700 especially with the teagues as on a 3800 they were extra work after so likely to be the thin wall type.
  19. well done that is quite a day to remember, just remember that pigoens are a wild creature and you cant expect to shoot that many everytime you go bear this in mind and you'll be hooked on this fantastic sport for life. days like that dont come round very often so enjoy them. well done none the less
  20. go for a secound hand beretta browning or miroku much better than a new llincoln or lanber. if it were me look in the for sale sections on this forum and in magazines as you seem to get better deals on s/h beretta 686 or browning 325/425's and miroku mk38 in the sporting mags these are your best options in my opinion. you can get a very tidy example for that sort of money
  21. have been keeping a game diary since boxing day and do date have shot 1240 pigeons exactly all picked up and accounted for plus a handfull of crows squirrels couple of dozen bunnies etc. running total for the forum then so far is 15131 pigeons
  22. perhaps a worthwile route would be to go and get the gun fitted by a gunsmith i know your son will grow quickly but perhaps a adjustable comb for around £100 will make it fit him and thus kill more birds, i agree with the statement that the fire power is the same however, i must admit clays are a damn sight easier to break with a 12 even wiht the smae amount of lead in the cartdridge. just my personal view
  23. as someone who has been in your sons situation between a 12 and a 20 fairly recently i started at 12 with a 12b sXs and t hen got a 20 now 6 years later im still with the 20 and have been told its too small, m advice if it fits its not too small i can see why he'd say the barrels are too small and therefore whippy, but it may suit your sons style my 20 has 30" barrels and is a tad on the heavy side but it suits my style of shooting, i would be very surprised if he shot better with the 12 at his age. hope this may help
  24. as some one who regularly shoots a 20, i can honestly say the only time id ever swap that gun for a 12 is on clays, i can bing down pheasants pigeons etc, as well as a 12, i went from using a 12 to a 20 mainly due to my size at the time but now feel that i can keep up with the 12s on game and i can hold my own with it on pigeons ( had 140 last week and most weere folded cleanly), it is a very capable drivin pheasant gun killing cleanly at distance, although the only down side is that you have to be spot on with the gun to kill, you either miss or kill clean there is no mid way i find. there also seems to be more of a satisfaction killing a bird others have missed with a gun smaller than theirs. my advice on choosing a gun would be if you have a more agrresive shooting style go for the longer barrels as this tends to make the swing with a liughter gun more smooth. hope this can help you in some way
  25. there are still a few good 3800's out there for that sort of money these are basically the mk38 pre 1995 with a trap stock.
