Big_Sam
Well I finally managed to deceifer all the proof marks on my gun - I think. Its italian, unknown make. Proof marks are CAM (CM?) 70mm kgf 1,370 **PSF *FINITO AM (1984) Like these: So what is the max cartridge I can fire? Seems like 70mm magnum? 1,370kgf? What is that? I wont be back til tomorrow night. Cheers, Sam
andrewluke
i'm pretty sure that kgf 1,370 is the weight of the barrels, andrew
Big_Sam
Sure its not the proof pressure?
M4X
kgf is a measure of force. but a measure of pressure is kgf/cm2 I THINK >>>> 1200kgf/cm2 is magnum roughly speaking kgf/cm is nearly the same as the measurement in bar but ... to be on the safe side, give the birmingham proof house a ring. Markio
70mm (2 3/4 inch) is the chamber length and therefore is the max length of cartridge you can fire through gun.
bob300w
The first mark, the gearwheel surround one, is not listed as a proof house mark, so it's probably a makers mark. The second is the Bresica proof house stamp, along with the others it means that your gun was proofed in it's finished state, as are most guns nowadays. The two stars and PSF is the proof mark applied by request of the person submitting it for 70mm chambered guns taking magnum loads. For longer chambers, this proof is compulsory. The pressure for this proof is 17,637 PSI, therefore your gun can use 70mm magnum cartridges. Standard proof is at 12,801 PSI. The degree of choke should also be marked, so I assume that your gun is multi-choke? If not, 1 star = full choke, 2 stars= 3/4 choke etc. PSF = Smokeless powder proof PN = Black powder proof AM, as you say, is 1984 Finito = Final (definative)proof If you were hoping to find that your gun was proofed in CATtolica, sorry to dissappoint you. Big_Sam
Thanks bob, useful info! I can't seem to find any reference to chokes, but I think they are 1/4 and 3/4. Cheers chaps, its great to be able to draw on the knowledge of so many people
