HEAD SHOT
I once met a an old Highland Stalker/Gillie and commented on his walking boots. They were the same as mine, MEINDL BURMAS, and how fantastic they are too. Later in conversation the Stalker told me he used NEATS FOOT OIL to totally oil and reproof the leather. You purchase this from Horse/saddlery shops in large tins at a cheap price. Just brush it on and watch it soak in to make the leather supple and waterproof. Sorry Nikwax your a rip off and probably based on this any way.
mirokujames
another small tip, is use a hairdryer to warm the leather before application, also after as it helps soak the wax into seams

I should have mentioned that. I leave mine in the drying room or in the sun to have a greater effect.

bob300w
Mink oil and Neats foot oil in 240ml bottles are marketed by "Outers", part of the Blount group (CCI etc) so if you local gunshop sells CCI ammunition, he wil be able to get this for you. I don't know who imports Blount's gear now, it used to be Edgar Brothers, but they ceased dealing with Blounts a few years back.
malkiserow
I used goose fat to great effect on leather ..... and makes them warmer too. The down side.... if you are wearing the boots in a room which is warm they will start to smell like goose fat and people will notice!!! Normally and for outside then it is great. lord_seagrave
I use a liquid blend of pine pitch and mink oil called "Montana Pitch Blend". It goes on easily and has the advantage that it smells great too. It returned one pair of particularly distressed walking boots to working condition, and with regular re-application they are still going. It is good enough to use on my smart shoes as well - but only once a year as a treat, otherwise they are difficult to bring back to a really high shine.
