MB1
Hi I been giving a simmons deerfield 3-9 x 40 scope, the problem i have with it is when the set on 3 it is clear and you can see the things you are shooting at. But when you try to zoom in you cant see a thing it just a blur. The guy didn't give me any instruction for the scope so is it a easy fix or better off in the bin. Thanks
Renegade Master
As far as I know that scope does not have parallax adjustment, so the target will not always be in focus. However, as long as the cross hairs are in focus it shouldn't be a problem. If you can't get on with it, sell it and buy a scope with PA. SteveieP
With optics at the budget end of the spectum, the tendency is to find that near objects are out of focus at the high magnifications. You may find at 9x magnification you can focus the scope but only at something 30+ yards away. Whereas at 3x mag' you might focus as near as 10 yards. It's just the limitations of the optics. If you think you need 9x magnification at close distances, you should probably switch the scope.............................................. for a dog & a white stick & give up shooting altogether as a danger to yourself & all those around you, you blind sod. bob300w
I think that the main point here is that you were given it, suggesting that there is a reason? i.e. a problem with it? If you mean that it is not clear in poor light, that is normal with the lower end range of scopes at high magnification. If it is blurred in good light at 9x, it is faulty, the good news being that it was a freeby! You could try sending it back to the importers, there is nothing to lose. Edit; I suppose you have tried adjusting the eyepiece to suit your eyes? Edited March 20, 2008 by bob300w
HeadShotHoncho
It is possible that the lens may have slipped, if thats what happened you will have to get a new one
Davrian
I bought a cheap Tasco 3-9 x50 and it was bad at anything below 100yrds! but then I found the objective lens was adjustable, basically the front collar that looks like a short shade is a lock ring so I can wind that all the way off and then the ring holding the lens screws back in. Now its good down to about 10yrds at 3x, and 25yrds onwards I tend to use 6x above 6x the image goes a bit fuzzy again! cheap optics I'm afraid but you can probably make it useable if you can adjust it? Tasco's instructions made no mention of this by the way!....... Apparently the correct way to set the scope up is to make the adjustments at the eye piece so the cross hair is crystal clear, this is done by holding the scope up to the light and turning the eye piece in or out. Then adjust the objective lens to get the image clear between the ranges you're most likely to use the scope?? (I'm waiting to be corrected on this.... ) Edited March 22, 2008 by Davrian
