Tony
One of my shooting mates won a copy of Jim Albones 'Red Letter Day' video. Has anyone seen it? I borrowed the tape, sat down with a few beers to await an interesting and informative video about pigeon shooting. WRONG. What a load poo! Almost the entire 77 minutes was devoted to seeing bird after bird drop from the sky. It was a real shame. It transpired that the challenge was to shoot four 100 plus bags over a four day period. Another case of big bags for the hell of it. Jim is obviously a respected and knowledgable pigeon shooter and guide. It would have been nice for him to impart some of this know how to the rest of us meer mortals through his video. Stuff like hide position and construction, reading flightlines, decoy patterns, etc, etc. I hope Jim doesn't use this forum or I'm in the deep stuff! Hey, If Jonathan Ross and Barry Norman can be critics then so can I
Cranfield
Tony, I haven,t seen the video, but the same criticism is made of most "sporting" videos I think Jack Hargreaves made a good instructional pigeon shooting video years ago, with a "professional" and it was criticised for not enough bird shooting. I always think that when Jack Charlton made the "Pigeon Shooting" video in the "Jacks Game" series with Archie Coates, he missed a great opportunity to find out more about "The Genius". If you see this video anywhere, or the set, I recommend you buy it. Has anyone ever thought of taking their own video camera shooting with them ? I am going to take a digital still camera this Winter, to take some "action shots" of pigeons coming in to the decoys, I reckon they could look good. I just have to get the camera down and the gun up safely.
highdowns hunter
"quote Cranfield "Jack Hargreaves" theres a blast from the past I used to love his programmes when I was a boy I havent seen any of his books though and for our Jack "Charlton" I have seen lots of adverts from people asking to buy his videos but have never seen any in the market stalls of boot sales
daveman
there was an earlier video from Jim Albone sold by Sporting Gun, just called something like Pigeon Shooting. It has plenty of advice about decoy pattens, building hides etc., and is a nice balance of advice and watching birds being shot. I think that red letter day video replaced it. have any of you seen a video called "Total Airgun Hunting" which I found a bit disappointing. Tony
I remember Jack Hargreaves on the telly. I think it was on a Sunday afternoon. I used to sit and watch it with my dad who was into fishing then. Didn't the program start with him sat on a horse and cart and then progress to his shed? Anyway, the moral of the story is ..... Sod the videos, just do you own thing!
