alexm
I've been monitoring fox activity outside the farmer's lambing shed for the last month or so after he had some problems earlier in the season. We took a couple of foxes and the problems stopped so we made the decision to leave them alone during cubbing if they weren't causing any problems (which they haven't). The farmer is happy because he hasn't sighted any foxes recently, although I have done some printouts of the fox activity picked up on camera as we don't want him thinking the threat has totally gone away, do we! This one is a bit of an exhibitionist! Looks like the run is just behind the railing...
pavman
Top man I have been looking for tracks by laying fresh patted down sand in areas I think they may cross, so far not much luck as it looks like they are laid up with cubs, just what do the units cost? alexm
This particular model is $300 from the US, but there are cheaper alternatives out there. The only thing I can fault this camera with is the fact that it can be a bit slow to take the shot. Apparently this is due to the camera being in standby to save battery (see this post by JohnGalway who has the same camera) so sometimes if the target is moving left-right it can be out of shot by the time the camera goes off. Mine has been out there a month and the battery level still says 75% which is pretty good going considering some days it is taking a couple of hundred pics when the sheep are moved into the same field as they are setting it off constantly. alexm
Sadly the farmer lost another lamb last night and has asked me to stake out the lambing shed, so the truce is off for the time being. I just hope it's not a vixen. I also had loads of pictures of what looked like nothing... until I flicked through them on the PC at full screen, your eye then picks up the movement of objects between the frames and I could finally see what was doing it.... I'm really impressed the camera is sensitive enough to pick it up, but the little ****** has left me about 130 pictures to sift through! Can you spot him?... alexm
did the robin set camera off or is there something lurking just below an behind the robin??? You've been studying that photo hard! Whatever that is doesn't move between the photos... this is the very next pic, taken 1 minute later... and only the robin has moved! I should try the time lapse function on the camera actually.... scrolling through the pics over the last week you can practically see the blossom growing on the bush! JohnGalway
According to Moultrie, the makers of one of the cameras I have, something as small as a mouse will set their one off. MY Bushnell I don't know as it's still sitting here beside me Pavman, if you're going getting one for fox best tip I can give you is to read the two sites I've posted on other camera threads. It's important to get a camera that reacts quickly rather than one that saves battery life by going into a sleep mode. No use in emailing makers about this issue as they'll tell you what you want to hear to sell you a camera, but there are people doing independent tests thankfully! If I were to go for another camera for fox I'd seriously look at the RecoynX

Patted sand down, I've heard it all now. Just get yourself an indian tracker like the rest of us..... Or failing that sit out all night by a baited trap
Traztaz
What would be interesting if is two guys with different cameras, or more guys, teamed up together and set all the cameras in the same place and then we could all see which camera catches what!!
