Mossberg 590 pump 399.00

The Mossberg® 590® Persuader® shotgun -- the pump-action shotgun you can count on for your sporting/vermin control needs. They have the credentials and track record to prove it. In their commercial form, the Persuaders are virtual duplicates of the proven Mossberg® military 590® models -- the only pump-action shotguns ever to pass all stringent U. S. Military Mil-Spec 3443 standards. These guns are dependable and economical. Available as an 8 + 1, or a 2 + 1

My boy is thinking about getting one of these the 2+1

honest opinions and advise please

Thanks in advance

Is that a joke?

For starters, that gun is for overseas markets only ie the 590 is not sold with that short barrel, muzzle brake and heat shield standard in this country. Just standard 24-inch barrel or over 590's, 500's etc are found on these shores. Didnt the name ring any alarm bells? Not very 'countrysidey'.

As for it being for your boy, does he have an FAC? Over 3-shot is for FAC holders only with the correct slot. FAC can come as 5-shot or more (up to 14 I believe).

If he has only an SGC its 3-shot only im afraid. No SGC, no gun!

Otherwise, by all acounts they are very good, reliable (if slightly crude) shotguns.

I hope this helps.

Mungler is a bit of a Mossberg convert. He'll probably be along in a minute to extoll the brand's virtues. In my view, having owned both Mossberg (which I sold) and Remington pumps (which I have kept, and love), I think Remington's 870 Wingmaster is the superior pump action.

But I cannot envisage why anyone other than a complete Walt would want a Mossberg like the Persuader. It's a pointless weapon, unless you are honing your jungle warfare skills. You only need a heat shield if you are firing a huge quantity of rounds. A muzzle brake like the one in that photo will 1) preclude any form of choking and 2) earn you no friends, because of the blast.

If I was your son, I'd re-think my plan and go for a cheap, normal semi-auto. Pump actions are great, but far less versatile than a semi-auto or an O/U.

I had a Benelli Nova pump, which was absolutely brilliant. Shot, swung and cycled beautifully. Now I have this Winchester Ranger 120 which is good, but not the gun the Benelli was.

I have been searching for a second hand Remington 870 for some time but there just does not seem to be any here up north. Having used a Mossbergs I find them ok, a good knockabout gun if you will. Pointless buying new, because as soon as you exit the dealer it is worth no more than any other second hand Mossberg.

Basically, there does not seem to be much between any pump action (unless it is a Benelli or Remington) so go and shop for a second hand bargain!

NB- avoid an ex-practical shooting gun, it will have had half a million shots through it.

I agree with Baldrick

if you want a quality pump Remington 870/winchester 1300/or browning Pump and of course there is benelli

but set a remington or browning next to the mossberg and you will know what i mean, i owned a mossberg they are fun and they will work, but my friends mossberg maverick litterally came apart well firing slugs at a old farm truck, not that in the UK you can go plinking in a farm yard with slugs, but you get the picture, the shell crattle broke on mine well on a pheasent hunt

anyway i stay away from mossberg
