ernyha
Now i was under the impression that it is illeagle to post a shotgun :yp:?? northy It is legal to post a shotgun to a registered gun dealer then the customer picks it up from there on production of his Shotgun Certificate. The dealer also has to have a copy of the sender's certificate. It is only illegal for one owner to post his gun direct to another.
Vecomm
A shotgun cannot be posted by the holder of a shotgun certificate. Shotguns can only be sent by post (approved carriers only) by a Registered firearms dealer - to a Registered Firearms Dealer. If you sell a gun that needs to be posted, you need to use your local gunshop or RFD to send the gun to an RFD near to the buyer. If you cant do that the transaction needs to be face to face.. ernyha
A shotgun cannot be posted by the holder of a shotgun certificate. :yp: That means I broke the law a couple of weeks ago then and i also notified my local police fire arms dept. before doing so. Vecomm
How did the dealer to whom you posted the gun know that you were the legal owner? Even if you sent a copy of your cert with the gun, you could have been a burglar who had recently nicked the gun AND cert from the owner. The reason that transactions involving a SGC holder need to be face to face is to ascertain that the gun, certificate and person all check out....... sorry :yp:

All my previous dealings under the current legislation have been carried out direct in the gunshop so I was acting on the advice of the buyer never having dealt like this before. Luckily all went smoothly so no harm has been done (Hopefully) :yp: I think a comment from PLINKER is called for ! plinker
sorry mate but he has got it all wrong i suggest that you check all that with your local police and firearms dealer, as for stolen guns being sent to people that hold a rfd this would look after itself when they register the gun on your sgc think about it, contact your police force then make a new correct post when you are more gemmed up about it. :yp:
Cranfield
It will be interesting to find out the "legal" situation, on the sale/posting of a shotgun. My understanding is the same as Vecomm's, they have to be sent between Registered Firearms Dealers, otherwise its face to face only. I hope this is not another instance where different Police Forces interpret things differently. :yp:
Vecomm
Have a look at Para. 7 on the Metropolitan Police website http://www.met.police.uk/firearms-enquirie...es/s_buysel.htm
plinker
here's how it works. person selling gun has to have proof the person that he is sending the gun to is a rfd and trading from the address that will be recieving the gun. the rfd needs the sellers sgc details (number, expiry date etc) rfd recieves the shotgun by courier and can then transfer it to a private individual ie put it on sgc for them. if an illegaly held shotgun was transfered in this way the serial numbers would show it up when the police received notification from both the rfd and the sgc holder, meaning that the police would then take the gun and the bad guys have one less gun, no harm done. i am absolutley sure this is legal as i have checked with devon& cornwall police and 2 rfds and frankly i find it insulting that someone is implying that i am advertising a shotgun for sale illegally such things can lead to to the loss of sgc's etc. plinker :<
ernyha
Plinker I don't think for 1 minute that anyone is suggesting that you are selling a gun illegally. The discussion is purely about peoples interpretation of the law as to how the transfer of the gun is legally done.
plinker
ernyha i have stated that i am willing to send a gun to a rfd someone has then posted that he thought this was illegal if that is not implying i am doing something illegal, what is?
